Käringö tennis club

Käringö Tennis Club is a small and dedicated association that operates and maintains the island’s historic clay tennis court. Surrounded by sea views and granite cliffs, it offers one of Sweden’s most scenic settings for a game of tennis.

Tennis has been part of life on Käringön since the early 1930s, when the court was first built alongside the development of the harbour. The current club was founded in 1956 by summer residents who took over the facility and later transformed the original asphalt court into the clay court still in use today.

During the summer months, the court becomes a natural gathering place for both residents and visitors. The club organises tennis schools for children, teenagers and adults, as well as its long-standing annual tennis tournament.

The court is primarily intended for club members, but visiting guests are also welcome to book court time for a visitor fee.

Käringö sailing club

Founded in 1968, Käringö Sailing Club (KSK) has long been an important part of life on Käringön. With the sea as its natural arena, the club promotes sailing, strengthens the sense of community on the island and contributes to the continued development of Käringön.

At the heart of the club’s activities is its sailing school, where children and young people discover the joy of sailing, learn essential seamanship skills and create memories that last a lifetime. Over the years, the sailing school has introduced generations of young sailors to life on the water and has become a cherished summer tradition for many families.

The club also organises regattas and sailing events for both dinghies and keelboats. The most well-known is Hermanö Runt, a classic annual race held in collaboration with Hälleviksstrand Sailing Society, attracting sailors from across the region.

Käringö Sailing Club is much more than a sailing club. It is a gathering place for residents, summer visitors and sailing enthusiasts of all ages. Here, tradition, community and a love of the sea come together – values that have shaped Käringön for generations.

Käringöns sport & recreation
association

Käringön Sports & Recreation Association (KIF) is a volunteer-run organisation dedicated to creating activities, gathering places and opportunities for community life on the island. With roots dating back to 1923, organised sports and recreation have long been an important part of Käringön’s history.

More than a century ago, island residents gathered for rowing competitions, football matches and other sporting events. While the activities have evolved over the years, the mission remains the same: to bring people together, encourage active lifestyles and create opportunities for all generations to enjoy island life.

The current association was re-established in 1987 and has since played a key role in developing Käringön’s recreational facilities. Through volunteer commitment and local support, KIF has helped create and maintain many of the amenities enjoyed by both residents and visitors today, including the football pitch, boules court, playgrounds, activity areas and outdoor gym.

Today, the association is also responsible for the swimming areas in Öviken and organises popular events such as the Boules Tournament, Myra Cup and Wet Rock Race. Through its work, KIF helps make Käringön a vibrant and active place to live, visit and enjoy throughout the year.
