Käringön sea rescue station
Founded in 1920, the Käringön Rescue Station is one of the busiest volunteer lifeboat stations in Sweden. Thanks to its strategic location in the heart of the Bohuslän archipelago, the station responds to between 400 and 500 missions each year.
Käringön also serves as an important training centre for the Swedish Sea Rescue Society. Crews from across the country receive training here on several of the organisation’s rescue craft, including the Victoria-class lifeboats, Rescue Runners and Gunnel Larsson-class vessels.
As both Käringön and the neighbouring island of Gullholmen have year-round residents, the station also carries out medical transports and other essential community services throughout the year.
Visitors are always welcome to stop by. The volunteer rescue crews are passionate about their work and are happy to share stories about life at one of Sweden’s most active sea rescue stations.
